Welcome to Saratoga Independent School!
Hello and welcome from (virtual) Saratoga Independent School!
Like so many of you, all of us at SIS are working from home, building a temporary new way of life with our families, sharing experiences with colleagues and friends, and looking forward to the day when we are together again with our students. We were fortunate to have an early start planning for online learning; we anticipated the possibility of school closings well in advance of the actual need, and had time to organize our teaching and search widely for resources.
This effort has continued, and our teachers are doing incredible work teaching and connecting with their students, and transferring, as much as possible, the meaningful SIS classroom experience to the online world. In addition to academics, students are enjoying classes with their art, music and PE teachers, through teacher-made videos and links to inspiring examples of work. With their focus on academics, creativity, care for the community at SIS and beyond, and the social/emotional/physical well-being of our students, our teachers are transforming what might have been a frightening time into a joint exploration in learning and connecting with exciting topics and ideas – and with one another.
At SIS, it is vitally important to us to make connections. Our approach to learning is thematic and we thrive on the excitement of discovering how a single event can be seen as part of a web of relationships in history, math, science, literature, etc. Whether learning at school or at home, our emphasis on the interrelatedness of ideas, people, and cultures remains strong.
We would love to invite you to come to school to see SIS in real life! That may not be possible for another month or so, depending on the effects of COVID-19. However, in the meantime, we invite you to contact Colleen Fortune, our Admission Liaison, who will answer all of your questions and give you a virtual tour of our school. Scroll through our website and find us on Facebook and Instagram. You can contact Colleen at firstname.lastname@example.org. I am happy, too, to answer your questions about SIS; you can reach me at email@example.com.
I wish you good health, strength, and the joy you can find in every nook and cranny of the new lives we are leading.
