COVID-19

Welcome to our page dedicated to COVID-19 and our efforts to reopen Saratoga Independent School in the Fall.  This page will be updated as new information becomes available to us.

Currently, Governor Cuomo has stated that schools will be allowed to open for in-person learning this fall if they have the proper procedures in place.  In the spring, we began working on plans for all scenarios: in-person learning, remote learning, and hybrid learning.  We have been updating classrooms and common areas, including our 60 acres of outdoor space, and our programs to be compliant with the new health and safety measures put forth by the state, and we have been inviting families in to share our current plans.  If you would like more information, you are invited to contact our Head of School, Lisa Brown, at lbrown@siskids.org, or Director of Operations, Juan Ocampo-Valle, at jocampo-valle@siskids.org.

As we continue to stay open for in-person learning in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, our very first priority is the health and safety of every member of the school community.  We will continue to communicate the important information in this plan to all members of the community as we move toward reopening.  The plan will be reviewed as new information becomes available, and we will make changes in procedures, as necessary.

Equally important is maintaining the quality of the education and sense of community that S.I.S. provides to our students, whether in person or remotely.   In-person teaching and learning are being re-examined in light of the changes and restrictions made necessary by new protocols and procedures (e.g., masks, six foot distancing, time devoted to enhanced personal and institutional hygiene, etc.).  Opportunities for outdoor learning and gathering are being added to our schedules.

A school-wide remote learning daily schedule has been shared with parents.  Teachers are planning concurrently for in-person and remote learning so that we will be prepared for either in September. We will engage students in our curriculum in person or remotely, and will carry on S.I.S.'s values of leadership, respect, creativity, active engagement, and meaningful learning.

Our administrative team, faculty, and staff are partners in the creation and implementation of our plans to reopen.  S.I.S. families are a critical part of the success of these efforts, and we appreciate their willingness to adapt and follow new health and safety guidelines, and to help their children understand the importance of new rules and responsibilities. We are grateful for their support and for that of our Board of Trustees during this most unusual time.

A Day In The Life Of An S.I.S. Student

Are you curious what a typical day might look like for a student at S.I.S. this Fall?  Although our students and staff will have to follow new health and safety measures, we feel that students will still be a part of the same rich community and learning experiences as always.
