Wilderness Week!
with Michael Nacheman
June 23-27, 9am to Noon
Join us for a week of outdoor exploration and adventure. We will be reading
compasses, learning survival techniques, building shelters, and doing various
team-building activities. We will also take two hikes in the "Northwoods"
at Skidmore College. Michael Nacheman has PROJECT WILD certification and
is a teacher at SIS with experience in multi-age teaching.
Mural, Mural on the Wall!
with Jennifer Wilcox
July 7-11, 9am to Noon
We will first identify a theme and then create an original design for
our new mural. By learning to mix our own paints to create new colors,
we will explore different painting techniques. Then, working as a team,
we will transfer our unique perspectives and final design to the mural
painting. P.S. Our feet will never leave the ground! Jen Wilcox is a teacher
at SIS.
Forever Wild: Create an Adirondack Musical
with Susan Hamlin
July 7-11, 1pm to 4pm
For this week we will be a songwriting and improv drama team, creating
an Adirondack musical production from our own ideas. We'll write original
songs to weave with our story. Songs can be funny, dramatic, beautiful,
silly--it's all up to us! We will end with a grand musical program for
our families and friends. Susan Hamlin is a professional touring singer
who has recorded her first CD, and regularly appears on WAMC's "Performance
Place" and other venues.
Arts & Crafts From Around the World
with Shauna DeYoung
July 14-18, 9am to Noon
We will examine various forms of arts and crafts from around the world
to learn about native materials, differing perspectives, and unique responses
to common experiences. Then we will create our own imitative models, and,
above all, have lots of fun! Ms. Shauna teaches at SIS during the school
year.
Out and About in Saratoga
with Shauna DeYoung
July 21-25, 9am to Noon
Summer Saratoga will be the scene for our week of fun exploring and
learning about our great city. We will also take a day to "give back"
to our community through a volunteer activity. We will be visiting adventurous
spots such as Ben & Jerry's, Congress Park, Creative Sparks, Saratoga
Beads, and Hi Roc Lanes. Come and join us for lots of fun!
Cartooning in the Summer Sun!
with Kerry Harrison
August 4-8, 1pm to 4pm
We will learn how cartoons are made by drawing our own. Next we will
create cartoon characters and stories while making a flipbook, a storyboard
and, of course, our own comic books. Kerry Harrison is a NYS certified
art instructor with extensive studio arts teaching experience.
