See and Tell – Storybook Creation

 Instructor: Jon Dorflinger

Ages: 3 to 5 years

Days: Monday – Friday

Times: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Dates: July 14 – 18

Cost: $75

Class Size: 10 students

Class Description:

A picture is worth a thousand words. Therefore, it makes sense that the oldest form of communication, storytelling, began as images drawn on the wall of a cave. Today, visual storytelling is proven to promote early literacy development.  In this program children will begin to interpret what they “See” and create images to “Tell” a story.  First, children will interpret story plot, setting, and character based on what they see in the pictures before listening to a story read to them.  Then they will get the hands on experience of telling their own story by drawing or painting images to create their own story book.

Instructor Biography:
Jon Dorflinger is a six-year veteran of the Hollywood film industry who earned his Masters in Teaching to share his passion for storytelling in the classroom. A former “Teacher of the Year,” Jon taught high school English Language Arts for inner city schools in Los Angeles, CA and Schenectady, NY. Today, he substitutes for the local schools in Saratoga County, operates his own tutoring business, tutors for the Saratoga Learning Center, instructs at Camp Invention for grade school students, and develops enrichment programs for the Saratoga Independent School.
