Year 2 Social Studies Curriculum

  • How did people interact with their environment?
  • Why do people want to change their lives?
  • How can obstacles or challenges cause change?
  • What were the different perspectives in this time period?
  • How and why do systems of government change?

UNIT I --COLONIAL LIFE

Unit Questions:

  • What reasons did people have for coming to the New World?
  • How was life for teh colonists different from our lives today?
  • What jobs did children, men, and women have?
  • What natural resources did the colonists use to make food, clothing, and shelter?
  • What were some of the environmental hardships that the colonists endured?
  • How did people work together to overcome hardships?
  • What factors led to success or failure of a colony?
  • What were the relationships with Native Americans--Did they change over time?
  • What kinds of government did the people set up in their colonies?
  • Who were the leaders in the community?
