View from hill, west of the campus
April 2, 2003 Here's a view from the hill west of the play area. This will remain forested after construction. The snowy clearing downhill, to the left of the tree with the missing bark, is an old logging road that leads down to the play area and the rest of the new campus. There are two stumps in another snowy area to the north of the camera.
May 9, 2003 Snow's gone. All the construction will be to the east of this viewpoint.
October 28, 2003 Mostly because the autumn leaves have fallen, you can see the newly-cleared construction area out to the east. The rest of this view shows that nothing has changed in a half-year.
November 20, 2003 Okay, now things are changing. The edge of the clearing is getting closer to the camera, but most of the view is still untouched forest.
April 6, 2004 Winter has come and gone, and the last of the trees has been taken down around the perimeter of the property. This area hasn't changed much, except for the view to the east.
April 23, 2004 We keep updating this view to show how little effect the construction has on the surrounding woods. This is near where a pileated woodpecker was found today - see the wildlife photo page for a better look.
April 30, 2004 Okay, they're getting a little closer. Changes in the layout of the site means a need for more fill for other areas that are too low - this hill is a good place to get that fill.
May 6, 2004 Make that a lot closer. The camera's viewpoint just sunk about two feet. Now the slope from here down to the playground is a lot more gentle.
May 12, 2004 From up here, about all you can see that's new is the gravel filled in along the outside of the south wall, and some of the earthmoving at the northern edge of the clearing. Compared to last week, the trees' leaves are starting to come out.
May 23, 2004 From this highest point on the site, you can look down on top of the foundation and frame structure of the new building. The well pipe has also been cut to ground level.
May 26, 2004 Pretty soon we won't be able to see progress inside the building. Today the western third of the building had its roof trusses installed by crane. The exterior wall insulation has also been installed. Once the roofing is done, the rest of the walls will be enclosed.
June 7, 2004 From here you can't see today's exterior work - it's all happening at the far end of the building. There are workers inside this end though, putting in interior doorways and wiring for lights.
August 25, 2004 Today the concrete is being poured for the sidewalks. The stormwater drain system is being installed under the future parking lot, and interior work continues.
