View from the parking lot

April 2, 2003 A light coating of snow is starting to melt away. This panorama is from the west half of the proposed parking lot, north of the building, with the camera's first view northwest down the driveway toward Route 29. The snow-covered area is from the east through the southwest.

April 25, 2003 Snow's gone. This view opens to the north, with better views of the rusty truck parts here and there.

September 1, 2003 Logging has started, to clear off the land that's going to become the playfield, as well as the building and parking areas. The huge green skidder drags the logs from where they're cut over to the orange machine, which cuts them to approximate length and loads them on another logging truck to be taken away.

October 24, 2003 Now it's hard to tell for sure that the camera's in the same spot, but it's pretty close. You can see four large logs to the west, near the well pipe. Most of the changes around the southern perimeter are because it's autumn, and the leaves have fallen, letting sunlight through.

November 11, 2003 The heavy earthmoving equipment is here! A bulldozer has started pushing the tree debris out of the construction area. In this pan, you can clearly see how the playground end is higher than the rest of the site, and how there's a lower area toward the north and east. This whole space will be levelled out for buildings, parking lot, and play field.

November 24, 2003 The building area is flattened out at the right elevation, and they've started digging trenches where the concrete footings will be poured. You can see the orange spray-painted lines laying out where the front of the building will be to the west and south. So far they've dug out for the west wall footing, adjacent to the play area. Look for the worker standing down in the trench to the west.

November 25, 2003 Still digging the holes for the footings. The front of the building has lots of bump-outs in it, so it's not as easy to dig as the long straight back wall. They've gotten to the center of the front wall, and have started keeping pace along the south (back) wall. All the building that will be above ground is located relative to the foundation, so these parts have to be laid out accurately, even though they'll be buried in a month.

December 1, 2003 Concrete block wall is going up from the buried footings to ground level. Right now, the wall extends from the southwest corner to the northwest corner, and halfway along the north wall to the main entrance (where the camera is located). You can see a few ladders down in the trench, and a large pile of sand used to mix up mortar.

March 16, 2004 In six months you'll be looking at the front doors of a new school building, to the south of this viewpoint. The concrete block and cement mixer have been waiting patiently for spring, but there's a little more waiting left. Temperatures are above and below freezing each day, and it's tough to mix water into the mortar when it's ice.

May 27 2004 We're making progress! No doors or windows yet, but walls and a roof are important.

June 1 2004 The front roof gets a decorative touch (don't worry, there won't be classes in the attic) and the skylights on the southern roof are framed in. Roofing paper is in place - the last step is layering on the shingles.

June 5 2004 The rest of the concrete was poured on Thursday; here on Saturday the framing crew has the rest of the building laid out, and exterior insulating sheets going up. Next week the crane will return to place the rest of the roof trusses, and we'll have a complete building. You can also see on the left how the main roofline is starting to be tied into the roof of the center great room.

June 9 2004 The framing, walls, roof trusses, and roofing are in place on the cafeteria end. Soon the center of the school will be taking shape. Between the gravel and the building you can see the rough-cut beams that will give the great room its Adirondack character.

June 14 2004 The last of the trusses have been put in place on the eastern end, and plywood sheathing ties it all together. The second decorative dormer is going up on this side. On the west end, bundles of shingles are in place, ready to complete the roofing job.

June 24 2004 The utility room at the cafeteria end has its roof built and covered; the large concrete blocks in the foreground are part of the septic system waiting to be buried. Orange flags are beginning to lay out where the rainwater drains under the parking lot will be.

August 3 2004 Standing in the middle of the parking lot, you can see the entrance to the school building where the driveway circles under the roof. Installation of the last two streetlights is being finished up at the eastern end of the building.

September 10 2004 The parking lot is paved, and full of cars. Construction workers, teachers, and volunteer helpers are getting the building ready for the first day of school on the 13th.

September 12 2004 Tonight is the school's last quiet evening alone - the kids arrive tomorrow! The streetlights come on around 6pm, and line the driveway all the way out to Route 29.
