View from east of the first building

April 25, 2003 Last fall, a group of volunteers started the cleanup of the site. There are several rusted truck bodies, including springs from the front seats, and piles of tires. This view is just east of the cafeteria end of the building, southwest of the future second building.

April 29, 2003 This view is further east of the cafeteria end of the building, due south of the future second building. This vantage point is outside the groundwork borderline, so it shouldn't change at all during construction.

September 1, 2003 Lots of clearing to the north, which is going to be the parking area this year, and Building 2 and 3 in the years to come. Eventually all this will be graded smooth and covered with grass.

September 10, 2003 Lots more clearing to the north. And a bit to the south (compare this to a week ago, on Sept 1st). The old logging road is turning into more of a ditch than a road.

October 11, 2003 Not much left of the road, other than a strip that's completely cleared of trees and brush.

October 24, 2003 Hrmph. The tree to the north that we've been using for a starting point has been cut down. Fortunately, most of the area to the south won't be touched through the construction - it's beyond the limits of the ground work.

November 11, 2003 Not much new here - though you can almost make out the yellow bulldozer to the north through the trees. It drove this way from the clearing to the west, then turned north into the center of the future second building. The last of the deciduous leaves have fallen from the trees, leaving only the evergreens to block your views.

November 22, 2003 Not only are we missing one tree to the north, we're missing a lot of trees! Notice also that the ground level to the west is lower than it used to be. The whole area needs to get flat, so the building can go up. The high parts are being moved into the low parts (just north of the camera here) to flatten out the future playfield area too.

November 29, 2003 Bleah! Snow! Doesn't stop bulldozers though. They've lowered this area a few feet since last week. You can't even see the construction to the west in this shot.

March 2, 2004 Still some snow left, but it's melting away. Two sets of snowshoe tracks left by the photographer, and lots of smaller tracks from local wildlife. The cloudy sunshine reflecting off the snow made it difficult to get a uniform exposure all around the camera. To the west, the foundation waits patiently for spring.

March 16, 2004 An unusually warm February allowed most of the snow to melt, though there are still a few inches left. The day after this photo, we got another late winter storm, holding off construction for a few more weeks.

April 19, 2004 The snow's all gone, this time for good. Earthmovers are pushing back the stumps, branches, and other debris, flattening out the future play area to the north and east of the school.

May 6, 2004 The foundation's done; buried pipes are going into the floor before the concrete slab is poured. There are truckloads of crushed stone being put in along the outside of the foundation wall for rainwater control.

June 7, 2004 The last of the concrete was poured four days ago; today the roof trusses are going up on the eastern end of the building. This portion will house a few classrooms, and the cafeteria space.

June 30, 2004 Earthmoving continues to the north and east of the building. Trenches are being dug for the septic system. Most construction is focused on the west end of the building, but the exterior walls are done and insulated at this end.
