View from along the driveway

April 29, 2003 Here's the present access road, with a muddy ditch between two low wet areas. Route 29 can barely be seen as a thin white line to the northeast, through the wetlands. Sediment control fencing is in place, to prevent any construction mud from running into the wetlands.

September 10, 2003 Some of the dirt from the school area has been moved into the ditch to make an easier roadway for the logging trucks to get through. You can start to see eastward to the expanse of area that will become the play field.

September 30, 2003 More of the treetops on the ground have been cleared away. All the small branches will be chipped into mulch and compost as the grading begins.

October 11, 2003 Better sunlight and better tree colors, but otherwise not a lot changed here in the past two weeks. The Bobcat stump grinder was practicing here, and there are a few edge-of-the-road markers in place.

October 28, 2003 A long soaking rain for the past two days has erased many of the vehicle tracks, but the muddy low spot isn't as bad as it was in the spring. Most of the leaves that are planning to drop this season have already fallen.

April 23, 2004 Winter has come and gone, and the earthmovers are back at work. The wet area to the southeast is the future rainwater runoff basin. The driveway itself has a layer of crushed stone, which helps get the sand and mud off truck tires before they get back on Route 29.

April 30, 2004 Rapid progress. The earthmovers have finished with the work on the foundation for the building, so they're moving on to the rest of the site. The parking lot and driveway are next, along with the rainwater runoff basin between the camera and the school.

June 16, 2004 The design of this area has been rearranged a little, making a straighter line toward the playground. Out toward Route 29, progress is being made on replacing the construction entrance with the final driveway.

July 2, 2004 A drainage culvert has been put in across the driveway, to channel runoff rainwater back into the wetlands to the west. You can also see the siding that's going to cover the outside of the building.

August 3, 2004 Streetlights have been installed along the driveway, all the way out to the entrance on Route 29. The building's main electricity supply was turned on for the first time on Friday, so you might see the streetlights on from Route 29 in the evening, once all the wiring is done.

August 28, 2004 The last of the underground work in the parking lot area is being done. This is the storm water runoff system, which lets rainwater gradually percolate back into the ground, rather than rushing off into the wetlands and causing erosion. Once this part is finished, the parking lot and driveway can be paved. The propane tanks have been buried so they're not blocking the view of the building.

September 7, 2004 The parking lot and driveway are paved! No more muddy tire tracks leading out onto Route 29. And it'll be a lot smoother school bus ride coming in to drop off kids on the first day of school.
