Alumni ProfilesSIS often receives notes from former students. Ms. K. has asked some for permission to put on the web site. You can also read some profiles of SIS graduates and former students. Elliot Melaney's Graduation Speech (June 2003) During the past 6 years at SIS, I have had many wonderful teachers. Besides the current ones, Pat was my Kindergarten and first grade teacher. Then I had Mr. Mike as a language arts teacher, Mr. D. as a math teacher, and so on. Although some of the teachers have left SIS, all of them have played an important role in my life. Right now, all of the teachers have become very important to me. Ms. K, my Language Arts teacher, has been particularly helpful during the past year. To me the advantage of a small school like SIS is that students can do things such as making a "Most Important" book for every single person in the school. The best part of SIS is that the teachers are always ready to help us. For this reason, we can accomplish many things in less time. I will miss all the teachers, the Town Meetings on Friday mornings, having after-care when school is over, playing 2-square with my friends, having all the fun hands-on activities that Mr. Nacheman let us do, and all the options that we would have on our projects. Most of all, I will miss SIS. Thank you all for making my past 6 years at SIS a great experience! Galen Corey Excerpts of a letter from Galen to Ms. K. SIS has been a ... fun experience for me. I have made some of the best friends I could ask for, and possibly met some of the nicest teachers in New York State. Of all the schools that I had been to, SIS was my favorite. SIS was full of unique changes and exciting new plans for the new school building. The classes were filled with hands-on activities, and the language arts teachers helped me along the way with my creative writing skills. At the end of the year, the whole school would perform a play. Though these plays might not be classics, the plays were always a fun time to hang out with my friends. Right now, I live in Hatfield, Mass. ... If you plan to go to SIS, all I have to say is "get ready for one elementary
school that you'll never forget". You will make great friends, meet new
teachers, and learn about some things that your parents might not yet know!
Good luck! |
