About SIS

The Saratoga Independent School was founded in 1991 as a New York State chartered private elementary school for children in Kindergarten through Grade 6. The school's mission is to empower each student to become a confident learner who is capable of critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork in an increasingly complex world. SIS faculty, staff, students, and parents are united in their commitment to academic excellence. Parents and prospective students are welcome to visit us at any time when school is in session.

SIS also offers a multi-age Early Childhood Program for 3/4 year olds.

Distinguishing Features of an SIS Education

  • Low student to teacher ratio: 5 full time, plus 6 part time teachers for 60 students.
  • Theme-based curriculum, consistent with NYS standards, that includes instruction in Art, Language Arts, Math, Music, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, and Physical Education.
  • Multi-age grouping that allows students to advance at their own pace.
  • Differentiated education that tailors process and content to each student's learning needs.
  • Foreign language instruction beginning in Kindergarten.
  • Daily school-wide morning meetings.
  • Hands-on projects and frequent field trips.
  • Students' progress evaluated through student work, teacher observation, and formal and informal skills assessment.
  • Narrative reports and skills checklist in place of traditional letter and number grades to reflect the complex nature of learning.

We are currently located at 459 Lake Avenue in Saratoga Springs in our new school facility, located about 2.5 miles east of the center of downtown. The Anderson Campus of the Saratoga Independent School accommodates 100 students and opened in September 2004.

The Board of Trustees of the Saratoga Independent School is committed to maintaining a comfortable and professional work environment that is free from harassment on the basis of sex. The Board has therefore adopted a strict Sexual Harassment Policy that prohibits any member of the community(faculty, staff, officers of the administration, or students) from harassing another. As a matter of moral and legal obligation, the Board has also adopted a Child Protection Policy that is intended to protect students from any form of sexual abuse or exploitation by employees. SIS intends to comply with all appropriate legislation for reporting actual and suspected sexual abuse of students directly to outside authorities. Complete copies of these policies are available in the SIS main office
